Hopped over to Indiana today for a dress fitting. No, not for me. My friend is getting married in a few short weeks, so I needed to go try on a bridesmaid dress. I have been to downtown Valparaiso a few times now, and I adore it. It is so quaint and inviting and the local cuisine is pretty fantastic.
No surprise that I had to sample the food while I was there. I love checking out new places and being able to have them for future reference or even recommendation. For such a small town, I honestly expected the food to be average, but it exceeded expectations. We started off at a cute little tavern (Pikk’s Tavern) and then tried the local desserts (Designer Desserts). Links and pictures can be found within this blog. If you are ever in Indiana, definitely check out this area!
The fries with three dips (chipotle mayo, truffle aioli parm, and sriracha ketchup).
Absolutely amazing eggs benedict served over crab cakes and a croissant. The croissant was definitely a welcomed surprise.
My friend and I enjoying brunch after the dress fitting. (She is not the one getting married, but I did need some size guidance help).
This cupcake shop and bakery will NOT disappoint. They had so many flavors, it was hard to choose just one. My personal favorite was the caramel apple and my friend recommends the creme brulee.
The decor in the cupcake shop was also something worth seeing. They had some sort of dinosaur theme going on in the shop, with small dinosaurs all over the restaurant. Be sure to check this place out if you ever get the time.
While Valpo is a bit more small town than I am used to, it surely will not disappoint. The downtown is not exactly large but there are plenty of eateries, boutiques, and shops to keep you entertained. There are also quite a few places with awesome margaritas.
