I like to step away from fashion and lifestyle blogging from time to time and write about something that means a lot to me: volunteering. I know that there are so many people doing so many good things in this world, and so many people looking to do the same. I have received some emails and comments about my volunteering, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the constant support. I feel that as bloggers, we are able to reach out to so many people. For so many, we are role models, collaborators, and expressions of fashion on a daily basis. I have been blessed with many opportunities in my life, so I try to give back as much as I can. I thought I would sharing some volunteering experiences with you, as well as some other opportunities in and around Chicago.
Recently, I have been volunteering with a program called Hashtag Lunchbag, where people spread love through the power of giving.
We write positive and encouraging sayings and phrases on notes to put into the lunch bags.
We also decorate the lunchbags and then fill them with food to hand them out.
All the volunteers make sandwiches and pack each lunch bag with a variety of food items. After we pack about 1,000 lunches, we head to several different homeless shelters and hand them out. We personally hand them out to different men, women, and children in the shelter, along with water and other items. There are different events in locations all across the country, and several places in different countries! If you want to volunteer, you can check out the website here, or you search the hashtag #hashtaglunchbag and find a meeting in your local area.
There are also so many ways to volunteer in your community: schools, park districts, event centers, etc. Schools are always looking for volunteers to help with tutoring, after school activities, and many other things. I urge you to reach out and help in any way that you can.
Also, I am quite close with so many of you, and we have been in contact for quite some time now. I would love to hear how you volunteer, help out, or do anything to help the community. I know so many of you have children as well, so I’d love to hear how you help out!
I hope you have a gorgeous weekend!
Also, in case you want to check it out or show some support, I would really appreciate it! I am currently raising money for a baskbetball program for one of the schools that I work at. This basketball program has just started this year and it aims at giving the kids a chance to enhance their education outside of the classroom. Many of the students come from very under-resourced areas, and the charter school does not provide any funding to after school programs. No pressure at all, just reaching out in any way that I can.
Thank you so much for your constant support!
