Workwear Wednesday: 3 Ways to Revive Your Workwear

3 ways to revive

Hey all and happy Workwear Wednesday! I get questions a lot regarding workwear, it seems to be my most popular post each week (I am still kind of in shock about it). I get asked a lot about inspo, how I create my looks, and what tips I would give for those working ladies. I am outlining some tips below and sharing some things that work for me. Feel free to drop a comment or share you feedback via email or in the comments below! I always love to hear your thoughts!

If you work in an office, you know it can be difficult to spruce up your 9-5 style. It gets hard to be creative day after day, especially if your morning routine is done mostly in a sleepy haze while you’re waiting for the caffeine to kick in. Simply stated, getting dressed for work can become a real drag when you have nothing new to work with. You find yourself reaching for the same weekly outfits, feeling more stuck in a routine than ever before.

But what if I were to tell you that there are some really simple ways to make your go-to work outfits feel brand new again? One of the biggest issues for women in the workplace is the fact that workwear is dominated by dark colors like black, grey, and navy. While these are great neutral hues to work with, they can become very daunting to your personal style. That’s why today I’m going to go over some of my favorite ways to brighten up an outfit for work so you can continuously feel confident in your workwear.

1. It’s all about the shoes

When you’re wearing a predominantly black or solid-colored outfit, it’s easy to feel really drab. One simple way to boost your style without any extra effort is to change out your usual shoes for a more quirky or colorful pair. If you find yourself always reaching for the plain black pumps, why not switch it up and try some two-toned loafers or a pop of purple? In some cases, you might even be able to get away with sleek sneakers. Check out the examples here for more business casual days when a leather sneaker looks a lot more chic than you thought it could.

Obviously does not need to be this specific shoe, but it really can make an outfit pop!

2. Prints are your friend

Death to the boring work wardrobe. Solid tops and skirts are great and all, but what happens when you wear them every day? You feel like a drone—and no fashion girl would dare put herself in that position. Mix up your usual plain pieces with printed accents. Whether you reach for a fabulous leopard-printed pencil skirt or a haute houndstooth coat, adding just one loud, printed piece to your ensemble is an easy yet effective way to bring life to your office garb. Of course, you don’t want to overdo the prints. I like this article’s advice on how to do animal prints right—because there’s a fine line between trendy and tacky.

3. Borrow from the boys

Sometimes you can feel stuck in a box when shopping for new workwear. It’s like all the designers have the same thing in mind for women: stiff dresses and ruffled blouses. Although these pieces are great for a woman in the office, it’s great to remember ultra-femme items are not your only options. In fact, like this site shows you, there are lots of tailored shirts out there that can look very smart for a woman who knows how to wear them right. Try a chic, slightly oversized Oxford-style top with colored skinny trousers or a printed skirt to mix both masculine and feminine styles—you’ll realize you opened a whole new door to your work wardrobe.
